Tnorala

I had seen Tnorala on one of my trips out bush and the nurse I was driving with told me we had to go and visit it, although it wasn’t a very popular tourist destination.

On our way there, there was a huge storm and the water just sat on top of the soil and washed over the road, making our drive a bit exciting.

Tnorala (Gosse Bluff) was created from a meteor many millions of years ago, pushing up the rock around it. The Aboriginal story is that some spirits were dancing in the Milky Way and one of the ladies dropped her baby in it’s coolamon and it fell to earth creating the big hole.

It is also a very sad place and it seems that few of the Western Arrarnta people visit it as it was the site of a large massacre of an Aboriginal family in the early 1900s I think. A very special place.
