The Trip 2008-2009: Matheran

We were lucky enough to be able to meet up with my good friend Jules from uni and her brand new husband Bhaumic in a little hilltop station called Matheran, about 30km out of Mumbai.

I'm not going to talk about the traumatic 16 hour bus trip to Mumbai and the stinking hot telephone booth and calling back and forwards to find out which train to get to Matheran... it was great to get there.

It also happened to be Jules' birthday so Bhaumic arranged a birthday/wedding celebration dinner one night after an afternoon strolling around and playing table tennis.

A lovely relaxing quiet place (no cars allowed!!).

Horseriding experience was a little bit... hmmm, that kid in the photo was about to get a kick in the head from me, he was so mean to the horses and kept hitting them with a whip to make them hurry up, but usually it made mine buck up and try to throw me off. For our return trip Bhaumic spoke to him and told him not to hit the horses and he managed to keep his whip to himself.. lucky for him!!

Very special to share our friends' honeymoon in such a lovely little part of the world. And after that we went to another hill station by ourselves then met up with them again on the train in Mumbai, where we stayed with Bhaumic's family for a couple of nights.
